Nick Summerbee

The Summerbees are unique as three generations who have all played football at the highest level. Mike's father George, the founder of the dynasty moved from Aldershot to First Division Preston and  played out his career in the game's lower reaches with Chester and Barrow after the War.

During the Second World War George worked at an aircraft factory, but that didnt stop him playing, he made 149 guest appearances for Portsmouth, the club closest to the factory.

Mike fondly remembered the times he played against his good mate George Best, perhaps the classic was November 6th 1971. Over 63,000 were at Maine Road to see this cracking contest.

Scorers: Francis Lee (p), Colin Bell, Mike Summerbee; Sammy McIlroy, Brian Kidd, Alan Gowling.
